This painting is a study of islamic design and geometry. I learned to draw many traditional patterns and through out the process of creating this work, but as i learned, I began to create my own designs utilizing islamic conventions of geometry.
So overall the work is a blend of traditional and newly created designs. I threw in a traditional Celtic design just to add asymmetry to the movement of the lines.
I always fear symmetry will cause the image to become predictable to the viewer even though I embed symmetry in the structure of the work.
I want the viewer to engage with the work from many different points always refreshing their perspective on the myriad of intersections that occur within the work.
