This painting was created using my own original stencils that I draw and cut by hand.
I use layers and repeated patterns to create a vibration or an energy field that transcends the original image.
This work is heavily laden with mythic and religious symbols while at the same time stealing from naturalism and abstract geometry to create visual impact. Symbols of life, death and transcendence coexist on an abstract structure of geometric patterns. Similar to the way the content of the mind exists against the backdrop of a reality that precedes it. I created this work while recovering from a severe brain injury. I used the creation of symmetry and pattern to help refocus my concentration. The mythological themes and symbols are like anchors that hold my thoughts to the earth.
